Digital cinema cameras allow everyone to be a cinematographer, right? No, not really. You first have to learn to think like one. What is the "film look" and how do you achieve it? Lighting, filters, matte boxes, shot composition and color science, including HDR and gamma - they are all important and will be part of  this month’s SDMP meeting. What about resolution? Should you shoot in RAW or Log? To think and shoot like a cinematographer, you need to fully understand how the camera can achieve your cinematic vision. Oh and by the way, you must have access to one!

Bernie Mitchell, Digital Cinema Evangelist and President of Silver Platter Productions, Inc., is an Emmy-nominated Producer/Director/Writer/Editor, Multimedia Person of the Year, and DVD Association Hall of Fame member.  He is a past member of the Television Academy and was a disc jockey in the golden days of free form radio.

His experience includes overall responsibility for the launch of a global hi-def TV, radio and web network, numerous broadcast and cable productions, and running his own marketing, consulting and multimedia production company.  Bernie also wrote a book and survived the madness. Oh and by the way, he managed to be a good father and husband, apparently.

Bernie has been the Pro Video Evangelist for Panasonic focusing on 4K and P2 cameras and workflows when they needed to explain the new resolutions. He tested new cameras and provided feedback to the product management team and trained resellers and end users around the country. He has shot hours of high definition, 3D, 4K and VR images all over the world. He has published articles, presented lectures and workshops, both domestically and internationally. He covered the Iditarod Race, being on the frozen trail for 20 days from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska, shooting in minus 67 degrees. He  also shot in the deserts of Arabia at 120 degrees. His favorite shoot? The one he is currently working on.
