The stage was set for a great meeting at The Film Hub in Vista, with over 50 people on hand to learn more about set design and art direction from Lauren Felhaber and Woody Woodburn of of Inspired Images Studios.
SD Media Pros members were treated to stories of how to (and how not to) construct flats, design sets, and partner with your art team for great results. Lauren and Woody not only shared their years of expertise in the art and craft of film and TV sets but also the novel approaches they are taking at The Film Hub to create a co-working space that doubles as standing sets for functional offices and a kitchen. To wrap up they invited their colleague, Elias Acosta, to talk about the future of set design and digital set extension. Elias shared the benefits this new technology is bringing to Hollywood productions today and when it might be accessible to indie and lower budget productions.

Art Director & Set Designer
Lauren Fehlhaber has designed sets and scenery since 2010.
She has worked on full-length motion pictures, music videos, long and short form commercials, television, and talk shows. She also has shared her expertise with national publishing companies and internationally acclaimed photographers.
Some of her skills include 3D presentation renderings, AutoCAD construction drawings, scenic painting, artwork, set decorating, product styling, digital graphics, and layout design.
Lauren was the space planner and interior designer for The Film Hub, where the studio design is driven by different backgrounds and textures for filming in every corner, with changeable sets and set extension opportunities.
Lauren stays very involved as an art director and set designer for local projects around San Diego.
Prior to her work in film and television, she was an interior designer, space planner and muralist. She was trained at the Art Institute of San Diego in interior design and drafting.
Set Leadman and Carpenter
Woody Woodburn is a 20-year veteran from Paramount Studios who built and fabricated sets and props for films such as Paint your Wagon and Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean as well as the television series The Big Valley and Bonanza.
Woody has years of experience in the construction industry doing unfinished and finished carpentry work. Woody pioneered the foam industry for set building with his former company Pro Foam, developing props and faux construction materials.
For the last six years, he has been working at Inspired Images Studios as the construction leadman running the mill shop.
Woody is a great problem solver and his ingenious, cost-effective solutions often use a modular approach to construction with reusable materials.
The Film Hub is a modern coworking space with professional video sound stages and audio recording facilities. It was designed to help add production value to shoots, with its standing sets, customizable backgrounds, and different looks and textures in every corner.
