When you think of the San Diego Padres, live baseball game production comes to mind. But what an Emmy-award winning media department? Find out all about it at our August meeting.
Baseball’s back, baby, and the Padres are right in the middle of things as they sprint towards the playoffs. But the Padres’ players are not the only ones seeking recognition. Two of the folks on the Padres staff have swung for the fences…and clobbered it with Emmys! Join us Wednesday, August 26, as we chat with two of San Diego’s finest creative minds, Brendan Neito and Nial Nelson-Hopkins with the Padres Creative Services Department, as they discuss some of their Emmy-winning work for the Padres. They’ll take us through their creative process and walk us through the incredible detailed pre- and post-production steps of their 2019 Emmy winner Brown is Back. Come listen and learn what it takes to put one of your own projects into the upper decks!
Brendan Nieto’s journey began at Hallandale High in Florida, where the school had a renowned TV magnet program. From there he became a news editor, and later a creative services producer, for NBC 6 in Miami earning multiple Emmys before working for the Miami Dolphins as Sr. Manager for Production and Programming, where he picked up three more Emmys. A two-year gig at Van Wagner Big Screen Network Productions in North Carolina was followed by a return stint as the Sr. Producer of Marketing for the Dolphins, where he received another Emmy. In 2017 he went west, becoming the Creative Director for the San Diego Padres, earning two more Emmys for his work. Needless to say, he understands what excellence looks like and how to achieve it.
Nial Nelson-Hopkins grew up obsessed with making Hi8 videos. That passion drove him to study directing and editing at college in Minnesota. After graduating in 2014, he became a full-time video producer for the Jacksonville Jaguars, leveraging his growing skillset to show-off his work on what were then the largest 8K LED video displays in the world! A year later, the Padres came calling and he was hired as Producer of Editing & Post Production, where he produces content for in-game video boards, social media, broadcast TV, commercial campaigns, and a host of other public-facing media. In his five years with the Padres, he’s won five Emmys for animation and editing. As if that work isn’t enough, he also does freelance animation for other sports teams and agencies through his company called Hey Fans Creative (HeyFans.tv)
