The late, great, comedienne Joan Rivers popularized the catch phrase “Can we talk?” For her and her comedy, it meant she wanted to strip away the pretense and get right down to the bare facts.
For San Diego Media Pros, it means just the same.
We want to talk to you about the state of our industry in general, and specifically the role SDMP plays in it.
San Diego Media Pros has gone through some major changes over the years as we worked to reestablish ourselves once our parent organization, Media Communications Association – International (MCA-I), dissolved. When other chapters chose to disband, as the Orange County one did, we chose to continue on, serving our community with educational presentations, guest speakers, and networking events.
But the landscape of our profession has shifted.
The growth of all-in-one agencies, the far lower cost of industry entry, the proliferation of on-line instruction, the acceptance of Zoom, the troubles from current legislations, the pressures of lower day-rates: all of this and more make the industry struggles a challenge.
Through it all we think we’ve done pretty well, but we want to do more. We want to become the “go-to” organization in town where people who share a common passion can gather together in ways that make ourselves, our businesses and our city better.
We want to be more inclusive in our membership, encouraging more women and more young people to join. We want to present topics more relevant to what you want to know, and to do so in ways that make it compelling to participate. And we want to expand our leadership with fresh faces and new ideas that can make all this happen.
Thus, our goal – through poll questions and focused topics – is to have an open and honest talk about the next step in the evolution of San Diego production and how we as SDMP and a community can best move forward.
