Apparently a way to steer clear of some of the AB5 issues is to create a single-person "Loan-Out" company, where by you as, say, an actor or screenwriter "loan out" your services to a production entity. A recent FB posting from Freelancers Against AB5 seems to indicate the EDD is planning to refuse the recognition of Loan-Outs. We cannot determine how legitimate the posting is, but this article from the LA Times seems to address the current status of Loan-outs:
